Fennec is the code name for Mozilla’s latest project, the Firefox browser that sits on your mobile phone. The name of the browser came from the Fennec Fox, which is a small desert fox.
The first release of the Fennec browser is now available for OS2008 software platforms and is based off the post-Firefox 3 beta 4 source code. Still in the prototype stage, Fennec is now available for trial run on the Nokia N810 Internet Tablets and desktop PCs.
What’s fancy about Fennec / Mobile Firefox browser?
- Fun & Friendly Interface
- Bookmarking & Tagging
- Auto hide URL bar for maximising content
- Built in Password Manager – comes handy
- Device Integration Services
- Claims to be 600% faster than Nokia’s built-in browser
Do not expect too much at the moment, but Mozilla’s Mobile Team is working hard to create intuitive and friendly user interfaces (for both touchscreens and non-touchscreens devices) that will make the future releases of Firefox Mobile / Fennec a real winner on handheld devices.
